I've heard through the grapevine that the PC/Mac version of remote does not work as well as the iPad version, but that was a while back. If they get that going better, and the offline editor works fine for setting up new shows and tweaking past shows, this thing is going to be hard to beat for any budget conscious systems ... especially self operated shows ... when you can pick up the X32 Rack at $1200 street price ... not to mention a wholesale price if you have that connection. Even that box has a small screen on-board for set ups.

I see that they claim 40 inputs but looking at the unit I just don't see 40. I see 23 if you include the talkback input. How many channels does the AES50 port stream?

the mixer software is 32 mic channels
6 aux ins + stereo plaYback from the usb stick
4 stereo effects returns

they all have access to A/B aes50
that makes 6 blocks of 8 channels available [both directions]

the desk has 32 mic pre's
6 trs aux in/out
and 16 xlr out

the rack has 16 mic pre's
6 aux i/o
8 xlr out

the core has only aes50 i/o

they all have a TB mic/oscillator/noise input
assignable to L/R and the busses

the controle software is free on the B websight for all 3 platforms

it does almost everything offline...

and they all also have a 'ultra net' <?> out
for 16 channels of P16 sends

The AES/50 is 48x48 at 48K
It can (and I have) use the real Midas preamp boxes (such as the DL251). That gave me 48x16 over a cat5 cable, plus I still had more local outputs or could remap some of the stage inputs for more local inputs if I needed them.

the "problem" with AES on the x32
is it patches in blocks of 8 [like adat]
and you can only 'cherry pick' from 4 blocks

...no matter what your source is

if you are using most of 1-32 but want something in aes chnl. 44
you are out of luck without physical repatch

if you are using aes 1-24 and aes 41-48 then that chnl is available

there are several things that would make the X series stuff much better

...but it would then be cutting into sales of midas products

the bottom line is that they are really powerful
tools that are really cheap

just dont buy it thinking it's going to do something else in the future
[altho it might...]

That is true, but hasn't been as limiting as it sounds ... if you just need a few inputs locally, remember you can still use the Aux ins and map them somewhere different.

Any yes, I'm sure part of that limitation is marketing.

A question for the X32 crowd.

On the X32 Rack - I see it has 6 1/4" inputs and outputs. Are those assignable as regular inputs and outputs just as the XLR jacks are?

Looking to put together a system with an X32 Rack + S16 Snake. That would give a combined output count of 22 (16 XLRs plus 6 1/4" jacks) which would hopefully provide me with 11 stereo mix buses.
