iLive T112

So just opened a show we mixed on a T112 iLive. 48x24 set up. It's rather nice I have to say. I liked the variable architecture that allows you to customize your subgroups, aux sends, matrix, etc to suit your needs.

Sounded pretty good to my ear anyway. Didn't really compare it to anything else.

I will say this however. It is also not something you're going to walk up to cold and familize yourself with in a hurry. It's fairly intuitive if it is already all set up for you. But if you're starting from scratch it can take a while to figure out all the ways you can customize your desk and such, since you can configure the busses and architecture as well as the surface itself. It also can take a while if it needs to reconfigure itself when you change something.

My only other issue really was that this unit didn't have enough inputs for the show, so I ended up using a SAC rig in the pit to submix the orchestra. With 30 wireless including spares patched in there wasn't enough inputs left for a 20 piece orchestra pit, even when I kept my mic count in the pit down. So I have a 24 input with 8 outputs in use SAC setup for the submix.

Anyway, other than a couple of the Digico units or an LCS rig I think this is probably my favorite unit I've worked on so far.

If we just had a 16 x 8 unit for the pit that probably would have done it.

Anyway, just thought I would share.

An IDR64 probably would have covered you on the input side.

If 16 channels of fader will sufice, I wonder if a Midas Pro1 and some AES50 expansion boxes would cover things for you? It'd be far more than I've got in my SAC rig, but a Pro1 and DL251 would make a pretty potent setup for me.

I forgot to add that I was not really happy with the EQ either. It has 4 band parametrics, but each band is limited in it's frequency range similar to the way alnalog desks work. I've never run into that before on a digital console. I expect to be able sweep any band to any frequency and at least this firmware (which was not the latest) didn't allow for that. Not that big of a deal for most users probably. But for dealing with a lav attached to the side of a head, I have become used to having that ability on the digital desks as much as the automation they allow for.

Then the Software is older than ist should ever be, in the Last three (i think) Software Versions you can change that eq behavior. 1.9 is just out with a couple of neat new features, you should check that out :)

The I live is with sac my favorite mixing tool. Great sound, the possibility of just a laptop with software controlling it, and an almost complete free architecture.

Oh and you could ad the Xdr 16/8 stage box via ace to the original idr48, so there you go
You just have to love it.

The only negative points are an not so great hardware build quality on the T series ( that what the regular iLive is made for) and nothing I remember right now;)

I'll have to look into the software update. But in reality, it's not my space and I'm not sure how often I'll be using it. So don't know if it will end up being worth my while to worry about it or not just yet.

Yeah I understand all I need is one of the stage boxes.... no fooling... all it takes is money... ;)

It's all about the money money..... Sing....

That's true, nut the Xdr is some mighty bucks cheaper than an idr, because it has no dsp, just preamps.

And the update with the iLive system is as simple as with most consoles, plugin any compatible USB stick and of you go :)
