Sorry to be a pill.... but I found this in about 2 minutes of looking... :-P

Seriously, MOTU used to be a total pain in the rear requiring a stupid sign in just to get to driver downloads. They have recently been trying pretty hard to overcome their bad rep... at least with the theatre sound community at large anyway.

Now I don't know if their email support has improved all that much or not, because it's been a while since I've tried to contact them. But the methods are shown here:

Hope that helps some, minus the sarcasim. :)

Sorry forgot... the original 828 is at least a 10 year old product if memory serves anyway. Maybe even more, I don't know. So the fact that there are driver still available at all for it isn't bad. But I don't think there are any Win 7 approved drivers for it. I think they stopped supporting that device with either XP or Vista, but dig through that driver archive page and pay close attention to which devices and OS each installer supports.

Good Luck...

The old 828 units don't have anything like Totalmix if I remember correctly. I think you can just monitor the inputs, maybe with one knob? Don't know... never actually owned one myself, just seen them in use.

The 828 is a really dated piece of gear, if you really want monitor mixes and meters and all that sort of stuff, you'll need to save up for one of the recent versions of their Firewire interfaces. Actually at this point I would go with one of the hybrid interfaces that has both USB2 and Firewire.

I am pretty sure you can only use one 828 at a time. But it has an ADAT optical port, so it should provide up to 16 x16 I/O at least.

OK, it's probably fine for that kind of work. As long as you realize it is not going to be an RME. :)

The biggest drawback will likely be support for more recent operating systems, or the lack there of. Other than that, assuming it's in working order, it should work just fine and I know it has ASIO support, so once you get it installed and working properly, you should be able to use it for things like Live Professor.

Why try so hard to kill an old thread? Was it that embarrassing?

Oh well... too bad others might have found the info useful.
