Due to an accident with my trailer, I am the proud owner of two completely busted JBL MPro 418s subs. Fortunately, I have insurance. They want to know what the replacement cost is going to be. From JBL, there are only two passive subs: the PRX 418s and the MRX 518s. The PRX 418s (non-powered, despite the moniker) appears to be *way* inferior to the 418s in just about every way (well, other than looks). The MRX 518s appears to be slightly inferior (the driver isn't quite as good from what people are telling me). Does anyone know of a sub that is roughly equivalent to the MPro 418s? I need to give my insurance company a reasonable "replacement cost" value that won't be total fraud ("Yeah, I think that the STX 818 is how I'd replace it.")
Thus far, I'm listing the MRX 518s (which, btw, has been discontinued, so there are some problems there). If anyone else has a better idea, please let me know.
FWIW, I think I'm going to replace the subs with the new PRX 718s cabinets. A lot more expensive, but it looks like one of those will easily do the job of two of the MPro 481s cabinets (powered by a Crown XTi 4000).
Cheers,
Randy Hyde
