I use 3 units all the time. I merge their outputs to a single MIDI Yoke using MIDI-Ox. I then split SAC's output from another MIDI Yoke using MIDI-Ox to send it's output to all 3 units. It does have a bit of lag for example when you switch mixers, you can literally want as it updates the fader positions down the line. But I have not had any real issues except that I do occasionally get a SAC crash during tech rehearsals. I've never narrowed this down however. I suspect it has more to do with remotes than surfaces. But it does seem to happen when you change scenes. I tried to figure it out with Bob a ways back but never was able to reliably reproduce it... so I gave up.
I have run 4 units one time. I don't remember having any issues.
I have mostly used Bob's BCF template however. Especially since he thinned out the MIDI output data during recall of scenes with fades. Before that you couldn't fade any channel that was on the surface or it would all bog down.
But I have moved on from SAC now anyhow so it's amazing how quickly this stuff gets "foggy" in one's memory....
