Been working on my own front end with remotable pres for the last year with Montarbo... hoping to show the finished product at NAMM.

Uh huh. He'll get to it just as soon as he's finished with Monitor View.

I saw that post on the other forum, but I avoided the temptation to ask the year in which he aims to show it at NAMM.

It's real. Friend of mine works for the German Montarbo distributor.
Weeks ago he went to Italy and saw some interesting things 8-)

Unless there are major updates to SAC, recallable preamps, which one will have to assume are running over some sort of pseudo-proprietary protocol, are not going to be enough to make SAC a winner. The space that SAC occupied is now getting crowded with more competitors that include very reputable companies.

Then there are the other concerns, such as how much will these things cost. As most SAC users are not those with deep pockets, unless they are extremely affordable, I don't see them being a big seller, unless they make them more universal so you can use them with a variety of software and hardware. Hopefully the Italians are smart enough to not make it some proprietary thing that only works with SAC.

Anything without a Dante port these days is kind of silly if you ask me. But if they were able to make something cheap that spoke Dante with remote controlled preamps, I could see that selling.

How about AVB? I've seen that very recently on some new gear. Was it MOTU?

Yes it is MOTU, but notice... no windows drivers for those units yet. They actually just came out with 24 input units and 24 output units that even look fairly install friendly. Definitely a different direction for MOTU. But they need to get an AVB virtual sound card for Window. It's built into the Mac OS now.

Dante on the other hand is cross platform right now, it is established and if you look at what's happening at trade shows, it's the bandwagon that almost everyone is jumping onto.

Dante should be compatible with AVB, when the AVB group ever gets their act together. AVB is also a much bigger nut to crack because they are trying to tackle video and audio. And if you think the audio side is moving slow, the video side is moving even slower. :-)

If I was opening my wallet to buy right now I wouldn't spend money on AVB, but I would on Dante.

He'll get to it as soon as he's done with Monitor View and the remotable preamps and control surface.
