Saw Tutorial Videos

Some time back I purchased the training vids for Saw. I noticed that I had a tough time staying with it because of the slow pace of the narration and all of the dead space. Poorly done overall in my opinion, although it was helpful for me at the time, I learned what I needed to. But it kind of turned me off. Recently I've been digging into Reaper. I bought a couple of training vids from Kenny Gioia. What a refreshing difference. This guy really knows how to do a training vid. They are super informative and down right inspiring. Quick pace (but not too quick) and zero dead space. Tons of info packed into each vid. I don't personally care what daw people choose to use, they are all pretty damn good at this point and it's personal preference. For me, I think Reaper will be what I use primarily. For the money I don't know if it can be beat.

Yeah when those much talked about vids became free I tried watching one. I think I got about 5 mins in before I turned it off. They sucked to not put too fine a point on it. I will never understand why the collective of that forum doesn't just tell him he is an idiot and to take a hike and stop promoting his dumb web site by tring to place links to it on other sites all in the name "being helpful".

Of course no vids in the world will make SAW more intuitive or bring it into this century in terms of what a modern DAW can do. Its OK if all you want is a computer equivelent of the open reel tape deck with a 70s analog mix desk with the 1980s automation package. But if you need any features or modern type production tools... look elsewhere.

I'm completely baffled at how SAW can still be priced so high. Just for comparison:
$1500- Saw Studio
$500- Samplitude ProX
$550- Cubase 8 Pro
$500- Sonar Platinum
$900- Pro Tools 11 (12 months)
$39- Harrison Mixbus (built on Ardour)
$60- Reaper (non commercial license)
$225- Reaper (commercial license)

I can understand that there are folks who have used SAW over the years, they are comfortable with it and it makes them money. I don't understand why anyone today would pay any amount for SAW given the choices out today. $1500 is absolutely unimaginable to me.

Totally agree. I even gave up on Sonar, just too much bloat for my taste. I mostly use the Sony/Sonic Foundry stuff and also Tracktion, the latter is also cheap, well under $100. Then there is also the fact of just how much other free stuff comes with most of those $500 plus apps. Blows away SAW. SAW doesn't even iclude a reverb and MIDI sequencing is extra. Compare that with the all the freebies throw in on something like Sonar.... no brainer...

I think I figured out what is bothering me about the price of SAW. It makes me realize that BL is seriously out of touch and most likely on his way out. It bums me out because I was pretty stoked about the whole SAC thing at one time. I think I gave him too many "benefits of the doubt".

In all fairness, SAW does do some things with show control and video that some of the other packages there don't do. That's not to say it's worth $1500 to the average user, though.

Yeah I can see that. However...

MOTU Digital Performer. Hence why it at least used to be the go to for backing tracks and that kind of crap for concerts.

I would also argue that just about every DAW out there has it's one or two things it does better than anyone else.

And lets remember that SAW Full was actually $2500 till not that long ago.

Frankly I've always thought the pricing for SAC and SAW was backward. SAW was way overpriced for what it does unless you go back to the very early days when it was truly an inovative product. And I always wished SAC was more expensive just to keep some of the total noobs away. 8-) It could have meant a few less sales but also less support issues and probably just as much of a revenue stream. At least until all the cheap competition showed up. Of course if SAC was say $2000 there would have been even more pressure and expectations of feature request being implemented and actually doing what you said you would do.

Micro, or that guy Dell in BC? Curious that he would "brand" his computer RML Studios, instead of his own studio
