OT: Restoring/Modding an old Shure 55

Postby BrentEvans » Mon Mar 24, 2014 7:11 pm

I have an old Shure 55 that's more or less (and more more than less) useless. It sort of works, but the capsule is damaged, and I can't imagine actually using it for anything in its present condition. So.. I took it apart, and as it turns out, I have a boundary mic with a small diaphragm element that will fit inside the housing quite nicely.

Was wondering, though, if anyone has any experience with modding these and could offer any tips. There seem to be a few references online, but mostly just offering a modding service. I'm looking for firsthand experiences.

TIA
